Greetings from Sagar, Western Ghats, Karnataka.
This has reference to my earlier e-mails of 28th March 2019, 30th April, 2019 and 22nd May 2019 on the subject :”The need for auditing of the procurement process followed in the case of nuclear power reactors for the country “.
More and more reports on the steep drop in the effective price of electricity from renewable energy sources, especially the solar power technology PLUS the energy storage battery, are pouring in from around the world in recent months. One such latest and credible report, as in the news link below, is from the State of California, US which indicates a definite price in the form of a contract for 25 years. It is evidently clear that the effective price of such renewable energy sources to the end customer OR to the electricity distributing company is vastly cheaper than any other source of conventional technology electricity including the nuclear electricity. ———————————————————————————-

Such price differential between nuclear and the renewable energy sources will only keep increasing because of the continuous march upwards of nuclear power price and the steep drop of the costs of renewable energy sources due to various credibly projected factors.
In this fast emerging reality, it will not be in the interest of any society, especially a populous and the resource constrained country like India, to continue to spend money in any form in nuclear power technology. The correct approach should be to declare an irreversible policy of moving away from nuclear power, and to start taking earnest efforts to safely decommission asap all the existing nuclear power plants.
A diligent audit report by CAG on the economics /finance of nuclear power plants in India, especially w.r.t the planned ones, will go a long way to assist the Union govt. in this regard.
May I also submit that the future generations will not forgive us for consciously ignoring the credibly projected and unacceptable levels of risks associated with the irresponsible policy of persisting with the nuclear power technology, even as late as 2019, against various credible warnings?
