Urgent Press Conference

You are cordially invited to an urgent press conference on the eve of French President Francois Hollande’s visit to New Delhi.
Modi govt has been blindly pursuing the UPA’s nuclear obssession, taking a u-turn from the BJP’s own strong reservations on dilution of liability law and fraudulent environmental clearance for the Jaitapur project.
Farmers and fisherfolk in Jaitapur will protest against the French President and the nuclear project. Recently, 13 village panchayats issued unanimous resolutions against the project. The local agitation has highlighted significant issues like loss of lives for thousands, destruction of pristine ecology of Konkan and impacts of the reactors on agriculture and fishing.
Independent experts have underscored some crucial risks like the active seismic faultlines beneath the proposed site, the vulnerabilities of Areva’s reactor design exposd by the French nuclear regulator itself, the lack of independent regulator and safety culture in India and the larger democractic deficit in consulting people about their destinies.
